::A place where locals shop. You should know how to bargain to get a good price. Big market. Many shops for Abaya and various other things. Parking could be tricky.

::dont think of going there during the weekend. the traffic to go inside is devastating. its nice to see such movements from so many young people opening shops, taking risks, and selling some hand made or fake stuff. but still im impressed.

::It is a little bit crowded and hard to get around since there is no map or guide around the place. On the other hand, it has a lot of stores and shops that offer you a variety of choices. It is not that expensive if you find yourself the right store.

::This is the main place in Riyadh to buy everything gold. There are many different stores here selling gold. Just be aware that all stores do not post any prices so you have to know how much you are willing to pay and negotiate to the end. Most stores accept credit cards which is a good thing so no need to carry cash. Main issue is that many stores do not have any English speaking associates so it is very hard to communicate with store clerks. Pricing for Italian gold necklace and other items of main interest to me were much higher than here in USA so just be aware. Pricing for Arabic (Saudi) and Indian gold items were very reasonable. Price includes cost of gold per gram for any given day plus cost to make this particular style. Selections were good overall except Italian gold designs. I could only find 2-3 stores out of more than 50 selling Italian gold items and pricing was quite high. In addition to golden market there is adjacent women's market (with perfume, abaya's and other female items) and children and home good stands stores (selling rugs). There were number of vendors selling mostly gift shop items and food on the street outside of market itself and this is where you need cash. Overall a nice place if you are willing to invest couple of hours and haggle over the price. Last thing - be aware of special prayer times when all stores get closed for about 20-30 minutes to allow for prayer. This happened to me as I was in the middle of negotiating with store clerk when entire store got closed and all buyers including me had to wait outside for store to reopen. So plan your trip accordingly.
